I get bouts of dermatitis, infrequently. Ever since I started using this balm, any skin irritation I experience either goes away completely by the next day or slowly heals over a period of a few days. If it's red and inflamed, it usually scabs over and heals on its own. When it's simply flaky, it disappears by next day. I've had itchy bumps that would pop-up on my body and it would slowly flatten and disappear over the course of a few days. The length of use really depends on the particular patch, but irritation usually doesn't last beyond 3-4 days. Sometimes I feel nothing when I put it on, sometimes I experience mild stinging that slowly dissipates. For itchy patches, sometimes the itchiness will continue for a few hours and then completely go away with frequent use. This 4 oz jar could last someone at least one year because you only need to use a little bit of the balm. I don't know if my irritation would have turned into dermatitis, because it is resolved within a few days. The photo shows a little irritation that I got. It was red and really itchy. I put the balm on and a few days later the area flattened and scabbed over.
This winter has been especially harsh, and my hands have really suffered—dry, cracked skin that eventually turned into eczema. I’ve always used hand creams regularly, but they weren’t strong enough to heal my skin. Eventually, I had to rely on hydrocortisone, which I try to avoid when possible.
I started using Nu Barrier Moisturizing Balm at the first sign of irritation, and within a day or two, my skin felt so much better. What stood out to me was that it didn’t just create a protective layer—it actually helped heal the damaged areas. My skin wasn’t just temporarily soothed; the cracks and rough patches noticeably improved, preventing them from worsening into full-blown eczema. I also found myself needing steroid creams far less often.
I also tried it on my 3-year-old’s skin when she had small red patches. Since I didn’t want to use steroids on her, I applied a little of this balm instead. By the next day, the redness had noticeably gone down.
This has been one of the most effective products I’ve used for eczema-prone skin, especially in the winter.
